With a gentle sweep of the child's eyes, the device can recognize the iris and input information into the system. If the child is lost by accident, according to the iris information, to help find the missing child.
Now, iris recognition is being used in child protection. At present, some provinces and cities in China have started to input iris information for children and set up a database to improve the chances of missing children being recovered.
Previously, iris recognition technology has been successfully applied in mining, finance, mobile communications and other fields, playing a very important role in identity recognition. More and more people are accepting and accepting who they are.
Iris recognition is more accurate than fingerprint recognition and face recognition, and the error rate can be as low as one in a million
The eye is often described as a window to the soul, but it is also an identity. Through the iris in the eye, we can quickly and accurately complete the identification and identification of the identity.
"The iris, a circular ring between the black pupil and the white sclera on the surface of the human eye, contains many interlaced spots, filaments, corona, stripes, crypt and other details," said tan tieniu, an academician of the Chinese academy of sciences.
Each person has a unique iris texture, and even if the same person has left and right eyes or identical twins, there are significant differences in iris texture. It is by comparing the similarities between iris image features that iris recognition techniques can be used to determine a person's identity.
Compared with fingerprint recognition and face recognition in biometrics, iris recognition started late. However, all kinds of published comparative tests and practical applications show that it is the most accurate biometric recognition technology at present.
First of all, iris is very unique and stable. Scientific research shows that iris is one of the most unique structures in the human body, which remains unchanged throughout life after the formation of the fetus and does not change due to external interference.
second, the iris is a biological feature that is more reliable and harder to fake than faces and fingerprints. For example, fingerprints are more prone to wear and damage, and face recognition can be difficult for twins to distinguish. Even the same person's appearance changes with age. Moreover, cosmetic surgery, facial expressions and gestures under different lighting conditions will also affect the recognition effect, "said tan." iris is much more difficult to fake and change. The iris is visible from the outside, but is also an internal tissue, located behind the cornea. To change the appearance of the iris is to risk blindness.
"With iris recognition, identical twins with very similar physiological characteristics can be identified within one second," said liu yao, an academician at the Chinese academy of engineering and former director of the ministry of public security's physical evidence identification center. Compared to fingerprint recognition and face recognition, iris recognition is more accurate and the error rate can be as low as one in a million.
However, it is not easy to make iris recognition easy and convenient.
"For comfort, you can't ask the person to pry their eyes and stare at the camera," said tan. In this case, how to obtain iris images easily and quickly becomes a problem. Also, do the iris collected come from living bodies? Will it come from glass eyeballs, photos, etc.? These are issues that need to be addressed."
China has the most widely used iris image database in the world
Chinese iris recognition research started at the end of 1998. That year, tan gave up his tenure at the university of reading in the UK and returned to the institute of automation of the Chinese academy of sciences to form an iris recognition team. However, due to the high technical threshold of independent research and development of iris image acquisition device, research was once blocked. It wasn't until 2000, when the research team developed the iris recognition core algorithm and prototype system, that they had the first core intellectual property of iris recognition in China.
There are four key technologies involved in iris recognition, tan said. The second is the living identification technology to solve the problem of true or false iris image. Thirdly, quality evaluation technology can solve the quality problem of iris image. Fourthly, feature expression technology solves the main problem of iris image. "Iris imaging alone is a technology that we've spent a lot of time and energy working on."
Mr Tan remembers well: "at that time, foreign agencies did not sell our iris acquisition equipment. You can't even get some iris images for research. So the core technologies are really out of the question, they're out of the question, they're out of the question.
After years of efforts, tan tieniu led the team to overcome the technical difficulties one by one from the aspects of iris collection, recognition and living detection, breaking the monopoly of iris recognition technology in the world, changing from passive to active, and realizing the leapfrog development of domestic iris recognition from scratch and from basic research to practical application.
“ now, in terms of iris image acquisition, we can achieve image acquisition from one eye to two eyes, image acquisition from near and far, and image acquisition from fixed to moving state," tan said.
According to the introduction, the CASIA iris image database independently built by tan tieniu research team is the most widely used iris image database in the world, with more than 20,000 research teams from 180 countries applying for use. The team has published more than 120 papers in international journals, including six long articles in the IEEE journal of pattern analysis and machine intelligence (PAMI).
"Now that our technology can be licensed and used abroad, many countries have applied to use our iris database, and we have the initiative," said tan. This fully shows that only by mastering the key core technologies can we master the initiative of scientific and technological development.
Iris recognition technology has a broad application prospect both at the national security level and at the industry level
As the iris recognition technology continues to progress, its industrial application continues to advance.
Iris recognition has been widely used in India, Mexico, the united Arab emirates and other countries, especially in high-security situations such as homeland security, counter-terrorism and riot, and social security.
The global Market for biometric technology will grow from $11.24 billion in 2015 to $23.3 billion in 2020, according to estimates by Transparency Market Research, a consultancy. Iris recognition technology ranks second, and the market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 28.6 percent to reach $2.45 billion by 2020.
In China, iris recognition has been applied in many industries and fields such as public security, security, mining and finance with its extremely high accuracy.
Ma li, general manager of Irisking, a subsidiary of the institute of automation of the Chinese academy of sciences, is the first PhD student in the field of iris recognition trained by tan tienniu after his return to China. In his impression, the Chinese academy of sciences' iris recognition technology was first applied to the domestic mining sector.
Ma li said: "mine access verification is a weak link in mine management. There is a tendency to substitute for one another, with workers at the end of the day having black faces and hands and being unable to recognize faces or faces based on fingerprints. So they came up with the iris recognition technology and found our research team."
In 2007, the iris recognition technology of tan tieniu's team was first applied to the black dragon Hei Longjiang coal group, and has since been popularized in major mines across the country.
Now, through the combination of industry, education and research, the iris recognition technology of the institute of automation of the Chinese academy of sciences has achieved remarkable results. They have launched a series of iris recognition products with independent intellectual property rights, which have been successfully applied in the fields of mine safety production, prison inmates management, bank vault access control, military security system, etc. Related products and technologies have been exported to the United States, India, southeast Asia, Middle East, Europe and other countries and regions.
"Right now, iris recognition is very successful in India," said ma. More than 1.2 billion people in India have now completed iris information collection, and iris identification will soon be applied to many areas of the national economy and livelihood in India.
Tan believes that iris recognition is the future of identity authentication development direction. " there is a very broad application prospect both at the national security requirements level and at the industry level of application requirements."
"For example, many iris recognition devices on the market are close iris recognition products, which require users to actively cooperate with the device to complete image collection. Compared to face recognition, the user experience is poor," tan said. At the same time, the cost of research and production needs to be further reduced.
